Transfer Station Information for Sands Township, Michigan

The  Transfer Station is available for disposal of items too large for our garbage truck, and is for Sands Township residents only.  It is located on M553 just south of the Sands Township Office and Park. The schedule is as follows:

Wednesday 4-7 pm
Thursday 10 am – 2 pm
Saturday 10 am – 2 pm on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, all 12 months of the year.

Electronics recycling – 3rd Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

1 or 2 small items, car trunk $5
3 or more smaller items in a car, truck, or trailer $10
Small pickup, SUV, Van, or small trailer $15
Medium trailer, regular size pickup $20
Large trailer, long box pickup $25
Box trailers or dump trailers $25 and up
Metal or Recycling No Charge

*Fees are based on volume/estimated weight.  Large items (couches and other furniture with metal inside),
items not easily crushed (wood or building materials), or heavier items (shingles or drywall) may be charged more.

  • The transfer station will accept shingles.
  • The transfer station does NOT accept cement or concrete, brush, household garbage, Household Hazardous Items, or appliances containing Freon, unless they are tagged and Freon has been removed.
  • If lift trucks or dump trucks/trailers are to be used for hauling items to the transfer station, they must be unloaded by hand.

** When the transfer station is closed, or if the office is closed and you cannot get a landfill hauling permit, you can bring their garbage to North Country Disposal (906-249-4500) off County Road 492 or Waste Management (906-662-6065) on Baraga Avenue in Marquette. They are both transfer stations that accept garbage for a fee – no permit required. Call for hours, requirements, and pricing.
